1st Annual CIYA (CINet Young Academics) meeting

Being a young academic offers you many new interesting challenges and responsibilities. Some of them in which you have already developed a good expertise and others require you to gain new competences. This is an exciting but also very challenging time in your research career, where you transition from being a student to becoming an excellent and experienced researcher.

In order to better deal with this transition, we have taken the initiative to establish a new forum within the CINet community, which focuses especially on young academics. This forum we called CIYA (CINet Young Academics). We envision that CIYA will give us the opportunity to discuss issues we find challenging at this stage of our careers, learn about topics we want to gain more experience with, and establish research activities across and amongst our group of young academics. We consider CIYA to be a collaborative stepping stone in the direction of becoming excellent and experienced researchers. Interesting CIYA topics could e.g. be:

• setting up (joint) research projects – national and international
• funding activities
• developing a publication strategy and publication pipeline
• reviewing for recognized journals
• teaching

This year we have the pleasure of inviting you personally to attend the 1st annual CIYA meeting. The meeting will take place directly after the closing session of the 9th CINet conference in Valencia on Tuesday the 9th of September at 16:30 – 18:30. So do plan on spending this day in wonderful Valencia as well ...

At the meeting we will lay the first bricks to what hopefully becomes an interesting network - get to know each other better; identify topics of common interest; discuss which structure and set-up of CIYA will suit us the best; and initiate joint research efforts. The meeting will also feature a CIYA kick-off presentation on the topic of “setting up research projects – national and international” by one of our esteemed and experienced senior colleagues. We will end the meeting by going out for dinner and enjoy the Spanish ambient.
