Recentely a new University of Western Sydney recognised Research Centre has been created from AEGIS and InCITe: CInIS - Centre for Industry and Innovation Studies.
AEGIS was established in 1998 by Professor Jane Marceau. AEGIS has established a distinctive capability and competitive advantage in undertaking high quality applicable research in the area of science, industry and innovation policy. Many of AEGIS’ reports and papers have had a substantial influence in public policy and program design. The report, High Road, Low Road (Marceau et al., 1997) was highly influential in the industry policy debates of the late 1990s and is still highly regarded. In the current industry and innovation policy climate there is a demand for further research on innovation as policy makers seek to formulate, implement and review policies and programs that aim to enhance Australia’s economic, social and environmental standing, industrial competitiveness, and business performance.
Over approximately the same time frame, the InCITe (Innovation and Continuous Improvement Technologies) Research Group within the College of Business has focused on applied research concerning firm level innovation and the management of technology and performance in both manufacturing and service sectors. A significant body of research on these matters has been established including a range of national and international collaborative networks. CINet is one of these networks.
These two complementary research agendas have now been combined into a single focused program in which key researchers from AEGIS, InCITe and other areas of the College as appropriate, are involved, to provide a strong research team with a clear research agenda. The name of the newly formed Research Cenre is CInIS: Centre for Industry and Innovation Studies.
