Beef (CRS) Scholarship Program

Friday 3 November 2006, 15:00 - by: Jeannette Visser

Play an Important role in Agribusiness and Industry Research

The Cooperative Research Centre for Beef Genetic Technologies (Beef CRC) Scholarship Program has opened for 2007. Twelve scholarships are available.  For a PhD the scholarships will pay a stipend of AUD 28,000 a year tax free whilst for a Masters the annual stipend is AUD 24,000. Scholarship holders will work alongside Australia’s leading scientists on research projects aimed at increasing returns to the beef industry by AUD 179 million per annum. The awarding of scholarships for accelerated adoption will compete with applications from other students in the science disciplines.

The Beef CRC is particularly seeking enthusiastic students who want to conduct real-life, real-time research on continuous improvement and innovation in the beef industry in a number of high impact research areas. Two of these areas are:

1. Models and processes for accelerating business, and regional industry, profit and growth - This research will develop and evaluate practical partnership models and processes to achieve improvements in beef business, and regional industry, profit and growth.  This research will involve the use of ‘participatory systems analysis’ with regional industry partners and stakeholders to solve problems and accelerate profit and growth.

2. Methods and tools for accelerating business, and regional industry, profit and growth - This research will involve the development, use and evaluation of specific methods and tools to achieve sustainable improvement in profit and growth.  This research will also involve developing methods and tools that accelerate the adoption of technologies for impact on profit and growth.

Research in both areas will involve working in regional locations with beef businesses, supply chains and regional industry partnerships.  Priority research locations are regions in Queensland and New South Wales.  There are also possibilities in Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia and New Zealand.

Successful candidates can enrol at universities supportive of these research areas.  An expert trans-disciplinary research team from University of Queensland will supervise research in the area of ‘models and processes for profit and growth’ (research area 1).  All research scholars be co-supervised and supported by the Beef CRC’s ‘Beef Profit Partnerships’ leadership team, they will also receive support from Beef CRC researchers and the ‘Beef Profit Partnerships’ network.

During the course of their studies researchers will be encouraged to interact with international research networks like the CINet (Continuous Innovation Network).

This is a great opportunity to work as part of a dynamic team and conduct research that makes a real difference while developing partnerships with key players in the beef industry.
