CINet support |
| Candidates recruitment/selection |
Although selection is the responsibility of local institutions,
the CINet disseminates information about the programmes, encouraging
applications from other institutions and from abroad. |
| Definition of opportunities for international collaboration |
Candidates and their institutions retain full autonomy in selecting
and adapting topics for research according to the local interests.
However, in order to highlight opportunities for international collaboration,
high priority topics are discussed and defined annually by the CINet. |
| Finding financial support/scholarships |
The CINet disseminates standard information to/from partner institutions.
The network also applies for funding using various sources to finance
co-ordination and promotion of the network, and to fund participation
by candidates in the network. |
| Coursework |
To reinforce coursework offered locally by institutions, a programme of coursework is organised by the CINet. This programme
includes CINet-specific activities and seminars as well as participation
in already established activities such as EIASM summer schools and
doctoral workshops. Occasionally, videoconferencing and other technologies
are used to reduce travelling costs. |
| Research design |
Particular attention is placed on the research design to ensure
quality and to capitalise on the opportunities for international collaboration.
CINet-related PhD dissertations are typically based on empirical research.
International comparisons and collaboration are promoted to allow
students to enlarge their empirical basis. |
| Promotion of international mobility |
Mobility and international collaboration are central to the programme.
All students are strongly encouraged to spend a period of abroad of
at least 6 months. In particular, mobility within the CINet is facilitated
whenever possible to promote collaboration among students and partner
institutions. |
| Discussion of results |
Students are encouraged to present progress of their research projects
and to discuss preliminary results. To this aim, a specific yearly
workshop is organised. |
| Publication of the PhD thesis |
Publication of PhD theses is promoted and encouraged by the network. |
